WHAT
LOVELY WEATHER! 'Comme il fait Beau!' (What Lovely Weather!) was co-written by Andre Breton, Robert Desnos and Benjamin Peret following the principles of collage to which they had been introduced by Max Ernst. Published in the journal Litterature in 1923, it features a cast of animals (from monkeys to kangaroos and anteaters), insects and plants; some of the dialogue emerged from Desnos' trances and its indebtedness to Dada from which the young surrealists had recently broken away is apparent. We are delighted to be presenting the English premiere of this wonderful short play at The Barbican Centre on 15th July 2010, as part a major exhibition Surreal House and at The Last Days of Decadence Sun 1st, 15th, 29th Aug, 12th & 26th Sept. Not to be missed! |
